Brand Background & Philosophy

The United States Marine Corps (USMC) is one of the most revered and elite branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. Established in 1775, it is a pillar of American military might, serving as the nation’s primary force for rapid deployment and amphibious warfare. As a critical component of the U.S. Department of Defense and operating under the Department of the Navy since 1834, the Marine Corps is tasked with protecting U.S. interests both at home and abroad.

The ethos of the Marine Corps is built around the core values of Honor, Courage, and Commitment. These values are deeply embedded not just in its combat strategies but in every aspect of its operations—from training regimens to the quality of the gear Marines use in the field. The USMC places the highest emphasis on durability, reliability, and performance. In battlefield scenarios where split-second decisions and harsh environments are the norm, every item issued to a Marine must meet uncompromising standards.

Unlike commercial fashion where aesthetics may take precedence, military apparel is entirely function-driven. Garments and gear must deliver maximum performance under the most extreme conditions: heat, cold, high mobility, moisture, abrasion, and long-term wear. Even foundational apparel such as base-layer undergarments is expected to enhance a Marine’s operational readiness by ensuring body temperature control, breathability, and moisture-wicking performance.

Suppliers to the Marine Corps are held to some of the strictest compliance, quality assurance, and delivery standards in the world. From MIL-SPEC (Military Specification) compliance to endurance testing, suppliers must not only meet but consistently exceed expectations. Becoming an approved partner for the USMC is not just a contract—it is a badge of trust and proof of manufacturing excellence.

In this context, Eton was honored to be selected as a strategic supplier for the U.S. Marine Corps’ technical garment program—delivering high-performance underwear systems designed for rigorous use in real-world combat and training environments.

Project with Eton

In 2015, Eton was awarded a five-year contract to supply the U.S. Marine Corps with high-performance base-layer upper and lower garments. These garments were to serve as foundational wear under the Marine uniform—playing a vital role in regulating body temperature, enhancing comfort, and preventing skin irritation in operational environments.

The scope of the project required deep specialization in technical textiles, understanding of military-grade production requirements, and a robust supply chain capable of fulfilling strict timelines. Eton was tasked with developing an underwear system that would meet the following criteria: comfort next to skin, sweat management, durability, breathability, and resistance to frequent laundering.

Eton collaborated with performance fabric developers to select a material blend optimized for moisture wicking and thermoregulation. Our team worked closely with military garment specialists to refine the fit, seam placement, and ergonomic design, ensuring the final product was field-ready and combat-tested.

To manage this high-volume, long-term contract, Eton established a dedicated production line supported by trained quality inspectors familiar with U.S. MIL-STD protocols. Our team ensured each batch met inspection thresholds and consistency in production.

From the initial pilot runs to ongoing contract fulfillment, Eton has consistently delivered high-precision, high-comfort base layers on time and in full. The successful execution of this project reinforced our capabilities as a strategic defense apparel supplier—and set the stage for further expansion in military and tactical supply partnerships.

Goals of the project

The U.S. Marine Corps approached Eton with a clear set of performance-driven goals that reflected the operational intensity of its field units. The garments supplied were not fashion pieces—they were essential tools worn daily by active-duty Marines in rigorous and sometimes hostile conditions. Our shared mission was to create next-to-skin apparel that enhanced comfort, protected skin, and supported peak physical performance.

Key project goals included:

By aligning our design, sourcing, and manufacturing teams around these priorities, Eton ensured the USMC received mission-ready garments that provided measurable support to its personnel in the field.
